Outdoor Education

“The man who goes afoot, prepared to camp anywhere and in any weather, is the most independent fellow on earth.”
– Horace Kephart, Camping and Woodcraft, 1917

We teach more than just the skills, we teach how they truly relate to you and the environment in different situations, including survival.

Begin your journey with our Basic Outdoor Living Skills (BOLS™) class. Learn the bottom-line considerations of your physical body and practical skills for a more comfortable and safer outdoor experience. Or make it an outdoor adventure learning these basics in the field with our Lost Day Hiker class.

Walk farther down this trail with our intermediate Outdoor WIlderness Living Skills (OWLS™) class, learning how to do more with less and being faster at it.

For those that love high adventure and are willing to take the trail less traveled, our customized Advanced Wilderness Living Skills (AWLS™) classes truly take a walk on the wild side.

Perhaps more important than any one given skill, is the ability to keep yourself and others safe and alive, psychologically and physically.  When you’re miles from anything, the last thing you need is an injury (or worse) and not know what to do! Therefore we offer before classes in both Wilderness First Aid (16 hours) and Wilderness First Responder (40 hours).

Finally, we have a relationship The Acorn Patrol Classic Camping Demonstration Team. They continually practice, participate in workshops, conduct research by referring to literature from the masters of woodcraft, and apply their time and treasure to the preservation of the craft celebrating life in the outdoors through leisure and recreation. We would be more than happy to coordinate an reenactment and/or educational program through your event.
